Invest in the Heart of Summit County

Every choice you make about where you shop, dine, and play has a direct, powerful impact on the future of Summit County. The beLocal initiative is your year-round commitment to supporting the independent businesses that define our community’s unique character, sustain our economy, and keep our mountain lifestyle vibrant.

Why Your Dollars Matter: The Value of Going Local

When you support a local Summit County business, your money stays right here, creating a virtuous cycle of community growth.

Your $$ Stay Local

When you choose local, your money recirculates within Summit County, generating more tax revenue and supporting essential public services. Over 1/2 of your dollars leave the community when you shop at corporate stores.

Strengthen Our Community

Local businesses are the social fabric of our towns. They donate twice as much money and resources to local charities, nonprofits, and schools as chains do.

Preserve Our Character

Local businesses offer unique products and services and provide jobs that help your neighbors thrive, keeping our home authentic and appealing.

beLocal in Action: Pour, Shop, Dine, Play

The beLocal initiative is about making intentional choices every day across every aspect of your life in Summit County. Here is how your daily decisions make a huge difference:

Pour

POUR INTO SUMMIT: Since Proposition 125 passed in 2023, buying your beer and wine at the grocery store has become too easy. It's important to take the extra few minutes and shop at your local liquor store. They need your support. Choosing independent stores ensures your dollars circulate in the community, directly supporting local owners, craft producers, and specialty products often overlooked by big chains.

Shop

SHOP LOCAL: Shopping locally fuels economic growth and job creation right in your neighborhood. It preserves the unique character of our mountain towns, reduces environmental impact, and guarantees you receive personalized service and curated, unique goods.

Dine

DINE LOCAL: When you dine out, you’re not just buying a meal—you’re investing in the livelihoods of your neighbors and supporting the culinary traditions that make Summit special. Plus, local restaurants often source fresher, higher-quality ingredients.

Play

PLAY LOCAL: Playing local builds a stronger sense of community and connection. By choosing local activities, sports leagues, or attractions, you directly support the organizations and businesses that contribute to the unique vibrancy and vitality of our county.
